Coinbase Files with CFTC to List Futures Contracts for Chainlink Shiba Inu and Three Other Altcoins

Coinbase’s derivatives division has formally submitted documents to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for self-certification of new futures products linked to five popular cryptocurrencies.

As per the filings, Coinbase Derivatives plans to roll out futures contracts for Avalanche (AVA), Chainlink (LNK), Polkadot (DOT), Stellar (XLM), and Shiba Inu (SHB), available for trading from July 15th onwards.

The submitted documents indicate that Coinbase has consulted with futures commission merchants (FCMs) and other market participants who endorse the launch of these contracts.

In an official statement, Coinbase Derivatives highlighted that it will become the inaugural US futures exchange offering CFTC-regulated margined futures contracts for AVA, LNK, DOT, XLM, and SHB.

“By including AVA, LNK, DOT, XLM, and SHB, our clients and their customers will benefit from increased avenues to hedge risks, speculate on price fluctuations, and engage in the crypto market with lower initial capital requirements,” the statement read.

Recently, Coinbase Derivatives also introduced futures contracts for commodities like oil and gold, responding to heightened retail demand for accessible, regulated trading options. The new contracts are structured with sizes equivalent to 10 barrels of oil and one troy ounce of gold.
