Bitcoin Daily Fees Reach Record-Breaking $80 Million After Runes: IntoTheBlock Launch
Bitcoin’s daily transaction fees have skyrocketed to over $80 million since the launch of the Runes protocol, surpassing the previous all-time high set over six years ago, according to crypto analytics firm IntoTheBlock. Developed by Casey Rodarmor, the Runes protocol aims to enhance the efficiency of creating fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network. Lucas Outumuro, head of research at IntoTheBlock, highlights that miners’ rewards have been boosted by the launch of Runes, with transaction fees surging by 1,200% following Bitcoin’s halving on April 19th. Additionally, Outumuro notes that the majority of Runes-related activity is driven by crypto enthusiasts, while retail participation may take some time to materialize.
