Self-Proclaimed Bitcoin Creator, Craig Wright, Abandons Lawsuit Against Developers of BTC
An individual who goes by the name of Craig Wright and claims to be the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, has decided to drop his lawsuit against Bitcoin developers. The Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund recently announced this development, stating that Wright is discontinuing his case against the 12 developers and others he had sued in the UK.
The decision comes after a judge ruled last month that there is substantial evidence proving that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto and that he did not write the Bitcoin White Paper, which serves as the foundational document for the digital asset. This ruling paved the way for Wright to drop his ongoing lawsuit.
The Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund celebrated this outcome, stating that Wright’s discontinuance brings an end to nearly a decade of harassment and intimidation. They view it as a significant victory for the Bitcoin developers and open-source software in general. Wright’s decision to drop the case follows the Bitcoin developers’ triumph in a related lawsuit, known as the “Identity Trial,” where they sought to definitively establish that Wright is not the true creator of Bitcoin.
Initially, Wright had filed the lawsuit against the BTC developers in 2021 through his trading firm, Tulip Trading. However, the case questioning Wright’s identity was initiated by the Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a nonprofit organization advocating for cryptocurrencies. COPA released a statement after the judge’s ruling, expressing relief that Wright no longer has the power to bully the Bitcoin community by falsely claiming ownership of the cryptocurrency.
According to COPA, this court decision is a victory for developers, the open-source community, and the truth. They accuse Wright and his financial backers of lying about his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto for over eight years and using that lie to harass and intimidate Bitcoin developers. With the judge’s ruling, COPA declares that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.
