Whale Wallet with 2142474 in Bitcoin Suddenly Resurfaces After Remaining Dormant for Over 13 Years

A dormant Bitcoin wallet, inactive for over a decade, has suddenly transferred bitcoins valued at over $2.1 million. The digital currency monitoring service **Whale Alert** observed the wallet’s revival, noting the transfer of 33.99 BTC into two distinct wallets. This marked the wallet’s first genuine transaction since June 18th, 2011, when the Bitcoin stash was valued at a mere $584.

Such activity from inactive wallets garners attention as it fuels speculation that the bitcoins might belong to the enigmatic Bitcoin founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. According to blockchain experts, Nakamoto is believed to have mined approximately one million bitcoins, beginning with the initial 50 BTC as a reward for creating the genesis block on January 3rd, 2009. Nakamoto’s active participation in the Bitcoin project ceased around mid-2011.

The most recent confirmed digital trace of Satoshi dates back to December 2010 on the BitcoinTalk forum, where the anonymous inventor discussed a Bitcoin software update aimed at thwarting denial-of-service attacks.

The wallet in question, although largely inactive, has sporadically received small amounts of Bitcoin over the past 13 years. These minor transactions are likely the result of dusting attacks, where cybercriminals send trivial amounts of cryptocurrency to numerous wallets to compromise the privacy of the wallet owners. The attackers then attempt to track the transactional movements of these wallets to deduce the identities of the individuals or entities controlling them.
