Jamie Coutts, the chief digital assets analyst at Real Vision, believes that the crypto sector, which is still in its early stages but experiencing significant growth, could continue its upward trend for a few more months. Coutts, who has a following of 32,100 on the social media platform X, predicts that crypto artificial intelligence (AI) agents will continue to perform well in the coming months.

Crypto AI agents are protocols that are designed to autonomously carry out tasks on behalf of users, such as interacting with blockchains and decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, as well as trading and managing portfolios.

Coutts states, “The last major crypto hype cycle lasted from November 2020 to May 2021, which is around six months. Subsectors like DeFi and NFTs had a duration of about six to twelve months. Interest in AI agents in crypto began to take off in November 2024. Based on historical trends, this trend is expected to last at least another four months, but possibly longer. AI agents are distinct from other agents as they unlock potential for every established and new use case.”

However, Coutts cautions that crypto AI agents could face a severe correction after reaching their peak in the hype cycle. He warns of potential scams and advises caution and careful position sizing. Nevertheless, he believes that there is still more potential for growth in this area.

According to CoinGecko, a cryptocurrency data aggregator, some of the top 100 digital assets by market capitalization that focus on AI include Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET), Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL), and ai16z (AI16Z).

The Artificial Superintelligence Alliance is a collaboration of decentralized AI platforms that aims to accelerate the development of decentralized Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).

Virtuals Protocol is a platform that seeks to enable co-ownership of AI agents.

Meanwhile, the ai16z crypto project utilizes AI-driven insights to guide investments in blockchain projects.
