Classic Nintendo 64 Emulator Debuts on Bitcoin Blockchain via NFT Platform, Utilizing BTC Ordinals
Pizza Ninjas, a non-fungible token (NFT) platform, has recently unveiled an exciting development in the world of gaming. They have successfully launched a Nintendo 64 (N64) emulator on Bitcoin (BTC) using BTC ordinals. This means that gamers can now play classic N64 games on other devices without the need for the actual console.
To achieve this, Pizza Ninjas utilized Google’s Brotli Compression method, which allowed them to encode larger items onto the satoshis, the smallest unit of BTC. By compressing the data, they were able to reduce the file sizes significantly. For instance, the iconic game Goldeneye 64, which is 12.4 MB uncompressed, can now be compressed down to just 3.15 MB using Brotli.
This size reduction is significant because it allows the game to fit inside a single Bitcoin block (4 MB) or be split across 8 transactions under 400 kb. Moreover, with the current low network fees, inscribing the game at a cost of $6,000 is reasonable for the gaming community.
The Nintendo 64, released in 1996, was a massive success, selling over 30 million units throughout its lifespan. Now, thanks to Pizza Ninjas’ innovative approach, gamers can relive the nostalgia of playing N64 games without the need for the physical console.
In a similar vein, earlier this year, the popular first-person shooter game Doom was also inscribed on Dogecoin (DOGE) using “doginals,” which are the equivalent of BTC ordinals for the meme asset.
It’s clear that the integration of gaming and cryptocurrencies is opening up new possibilities for both industries. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect more exciting developments in this space.
